In the late night hours on a frigid, New Year's Eve, Engine 34, Ladder 35, Rescue 34, Sta, 30 Paid Firefighers, Inspira EMS Sq. 89, and Life Support 6, were dispatched to the area of 1723 E. Broad St. for a reported Dwelling Fire with possible entrapment. Units responding, were advised that, multiple callers were reporting, flames coming from the front and basement of a dwelling, with possibly people trapped. Engine 34 arrived on location, with heavy fire showing from a single family dwelling. Engine 34's crew quickly went interior, locating a male, trapped in the basement. Crews quickly removed the patient who was transferred to waiting EMS. As more manpower arrived, crews went into service, quickly knocking back the heavy fire. Crews were also able to locate and safely remove a dog, trapped in the residence. The patient was later flown to Crozer Chester, with severe smoke inhalation. Crews remained on location, shortly into the new year, checking for, and extinguishing any hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Millville PD, AC Electric, SJ Gas, and Cumberland County Red Cross, also assisted at the scene.
